THE SHORT ANSWER

AeroPress combines a short steep with gentle manual pressure through a filter. For the standard-size brewer, try 16 g coffee and 220 g water using the upright method.

Starting recipe
16 g coffee / 220 g input water
Grind
Medium-fine
Time
About 2 minutes, plus heating
Temperature
85°C / 185°F to start

What you’ll need

  • Standard-size AeroPress and matching filter
  • Sturdy heat-safe mug
  • Kettle, scale, spoon, timer

Make it, step by step

  1. Fit a paper filter into the cap, secure it to the chamber, and stand the chamber upright on a sturdy mug.
  2. Add 16 g medium-fine coffee. Pour 220 g water into the chamber without exceeding its capacity.
  3. Stir gently, then insert the plunger slightly to limit dripping. Wait about 30–60 seconds.
  4. Move the mug off the scale before pressing. Press with steady, gentle pressure; never lean your body weight onto it.
  5. Let the cap cool before removing it, eject the grounds safely, and rinse. Taste, then add hot water if you want a longer cup.
Make it yours
