What to call it

Türk kahvesi means Turkish coffee; a cezve is the small brewing pot.

How it’s brewed

Very finely ground coffee, water, and optional sugar are heated slowly in a cezve. The drink is poured unfiltered into small cups, allowing the grounds to settle. A glass of water commonly accompanies it. Do not drain the sediment at the bottom.

A little history

UNESCO inscribed Turkish coffee culture and tradition on its Representative List in 2013. That recognizes a living tradition of preparation, hospitality, conversation, and transmission between generations; it does not grant exclusive ownership of every related regional coffee method.

A small ritual to try

Try a small, slowly prepared cup and choose sweetness before brewing. This is an invitation to settle in, not a tiny drink to sprint through. A shared pot can make more room for conversation than a giant takeaway cup.

Travel with curiosity

These notes introduce traditions, not rules for everyone in a country. Recipes, languages, and café habits vary by region and household. Destination photographs illustrate a place, not a claim about the farm behind a bag.
